dear ones,
one of my pleasures is living life beautifully in small & simple ways. and if there’s a path to make a task more lovely, i’m all in.
so, while i’m wiping down the kitchen counters or driving to pick audrey up from school, if i’m not relishing the quiet, it’s entirely likely that i’m listening to a podcast.
probably because i deeply love conversation.
and i find that these particular conversations can uplift, or help me gain a new perspective.
friends over the years have asked me about favorite podcasts so just in case you were curious about the wonderful world of podcasts *or* had an amazing one to send my way (please do!), i’m here today to share!
there are very few podcasts that i listen to all the episodes of (or even half) – i just select a few that seem interesting & limit subscribing because then my phone/ipad fills up and it starts to feel like something to “get through” rather than a delight.
so, my list below represents a few episodes you might want to explore…and in case that purple icon on your apple device is completely foreign, there’s some guidance on that too!
for finding these, i’d suggest searching the title of the episode with the podcast name (sadly, there isn’t a good way to offer a direct link to a podcast episode) within your podcast app.

- 01on being with krista tippett
she has to be first on the list because i adore the topics explored and her interviewing style.
check out: jean vanier – the wisdom of tenderness
- 02family adventure with erik hemingway
i actually listen to most of these…but that’s because at least once i week i’m trying to get jason & audrey on a sailboat for an extended trip. not because i know how to sail but i figure i’m reasonably bright and can pick it up ;) and in full disclosure, i’m not really sure i could sail but i know jason could and i could be quite helpful. you know, in making him sandwiches while his amazing sense of direction is being employed :)
this podcast is a little more homespun/less polished but i love hearing about all the different adventures :)
- 03the tim ferriss show
i don’t usually love how this podcast feels…but he does get great people on his show and introduces some cool ideas…some podcasts have long lead-ins/closings/ads and this is one of them ;)
check out:
#80 thomas edison’s formula for greatness (fast forward to 8:15 and stop at 16:58)
#221 mr. money mustache – living beautifully on $25K per year (i could go on and on about the whole topic of financial independence that mmm goes into on this episode but if you want a next step, i’d read Your Money or Your Life and skip the portion about treasury bond investing since our current economic climate doesn’t make sense with that strategy)
- 04move >> sit >> write
it’s so cool how she does 3 episode bunches – a yoga practice, meditation and then writing prompt…she hasn’t put out many episodes but i’m hopeful there will be more.
- 05simple families with Denaye Barahona
check out:
Episode 1: About the podcast
Episode 2: Why is it better to have fewer toys?
Episode 3: How do you choose great toys?
These are super short (always under 10min long) but still filled with good content.
- 06God Centered Mom
check out:
when to have “the talk” :: Mary Flo Ridley
- 07brains on! science podcast for kids
a favorite for audrey when we’re traveling or stuck waiting for an appt…we love the mystery sound segment! (i rarely listen to podcasts when she’s around because i never know when someone might use language not meant for either of our ears but particularly hers)
- 08others to consider
chase jarvis LIVE show, good life project, every branch, cohesive home (check out: wisdom from the little house books), robcast, power of moms radio, the lively show, southland weekend message series, bold new mom, the liturgists
one final tip: sometimes if the podcaster speaks slowly, i will listen to some of them at 1.5 speed ;) (that setting is the little 1X you’ll see to the left of the play button on the apple podcast app)
just 3 spots remain for our spring mini session in a couple saturdays in the darling gratz park neighborhood – hop over here to reserve one!
