ephemeral

definition: lasting a very short time

I’m delighted by what’s ephemeral – local strawberries have a pretty short season of 3 weeks.
Sunrises.
Or a growing baby, for goodness sakes.
But I’m in love with what lasts.  As I’ve thought about how to be most effective at living, I realized that social media was losing it’s luster big-time.  It’s ephemeral quality doesn’t hold the same appeal that the leaves in fall do.

So, I’m deciding to do a little less of that and wanted to share why.  Because slow living feels better.  Less fractured.  Less like noise and more like music.

I’m here to say hello and pretending that we’re sitting around a campfire with logs glowing and sharing what’s lighting us up.   My letters in your inbox will be the main focus so sign up!

the delightful Vicki Gaver at work…I so enjoyed her company and the chance to meet her chickens!  And I was almost hypnotized by the process of baking because I love it so much but I rarely get to watch and study it.

    time log

next week i’m doing a time log based on the book 168 hours – not because I’m trying to get more in but I love seeing it all in black and white…budget/food log…I like how they all clearly articulate what is.

    racing extinction

a couple weeks ago i watched a documentary about a subject i know very little about…what i appreciated was the note it ended on.  in case you’ve forgotten all about tv like me and want something intriguing to watch, it’s a good one. be forewarned, it covers some controversial topics (particularly for our state) but i can’t think of one that fits so many puzzle pieces together in such an understandable way.   tesla makes an appearance and although i’m happy as a clam with my car, i’m thrilled with their tesla 3 announcement (it has driver assist!!) and the fact that there’s a tesla charging station just down the street from me!  (lexington library link in case it’s useful. and these two books were so cute too! swatch, uni the unicorn)

    rosemary beach

have you spent time in seaside/alys beach/rosemary beach florida?  oh goodness, i’m like a child in a candy store that i get to head back in a few weeks to photograph some people i adore!  can.not.wait!  i love trip planning and this ah-mazing home came up when i was doing a search on pinterest…and really, every inch is that amazing there!  a friend of mine gets together at a beach house with her friends from college every year (what a fun tradition) and this would be so fun for a gathering like that.

Next time, I’ll share a shoot from a castle in Texas :)  #squeal

xoxoxo to infinity, -melanie-

P.S. [ Gather ] was sublime!  There’s one spot left for June 21st if you’d like to join!

A Grateful Goodbye

For nearly three decades, it has been my deep honor to document your life. After much reflection, I’ve made the decision to retire from photography.
